‘Against the grain’ stresses the subconscious significance of imagery arrived at by the exploitation of the artists life experiences with a pretty rare medium known as “Pyrography”.
Often called “wood tattooing” where the illustration is burnt into the wood with a hand held poker worker to give a sharp aesthetic.
Their is a focus on the growth parameters of the wood. Some grain elements are embedded with the poker work and and other voids are filled with splashes of paint and line work that all come together to create a new form of expression for the artist.
